In 2011 the pilot of an emergency medical services helicopter in Missouri was en route to a hospital with a patient, nurse and paramedic on board when he ran out of fuel. Like many aviation accidents, there were several bad decisions that led to the incident. But for the first time, the National Transportation Safety Board is pointing to the pilot's texting minutes before the last drops of fuel burned in the turbine engine as a major contributing factor.
